The EU Transparency Code is now a practical Article 50 compliance pathway
The Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-generated Content supports implementation of Article 50 marking and labelling duties. The Commission and AI Board assessed it as adequate, while stressing that adherence is not conclusive proof of compliance.

What the Code covers
The Code addresses Article 50(2), (4) and (5), including marking/detection of AI-generated content and labelling of deepfakes and specified AI-generated public-interest content.
Why it matters
The Commission describes the Code as a streamlined and predictable voluntary pathway for signatories to implement the relevant transparency obligations across the EU. Organisations that do not sign still need to demonstrate compliance through other adequate means.
Industry uptake
By the end of July 2026, the Commission reported roughly 190 organisations had signed the Code. The signatory list includes major AI providers and deployers across multiple sectors.
Do not overstate legal effect
The Commission's adequacy opinion expressly notes that adherence is not conclusive evidence of compliance. Companies still need to map their actual Article 50 role, systems and implementation evidence.
